The image you were viewing shows the dropped to the ground after the third pass of thinning on this August morning. This is
Petite Sirah in Alexander Valley which is blended into our Sonoma Zinfandel (approximately 5%). We thin fruit more aggressively than most wineries, but this is critical work to achieve the uniform fruit flavors that we expect. Since mid July we’ve had roughly 40 days of foggy mornings and below average temperatures. In terms of degree days, or heat units, we are 15% cooler than last year. The end result is that we are now projecting harvest to be three weeks late....so keep good thoughts for us as we need some sunny mornings and warmer days through October.
