Inspired by the similarity of Sonoma County’s climate and topography to his native northern Italy, founder Edoardo Seghesio originally planted Sangiovese vineyards at his Chianti Station property in 1910. They continue to be the foundation of Seghesio’s Italian red wines.
Aglianico, a historic red grape dating to the seventh century BC, is prized by winemakers for its concentrated and vibrant fruit. One of the best kept secrets of its native Italy, Aglianico also makes a delicious Rosato! We have made ours in the traditional style - bright, fresh, and completely dry.

Edoardo Seghesio immigrated to America from the Piedmont region of Italy, home to Barbera. In 1895, he planted his first vineyards to grapes he had come to enjoy in his new country, yet one vineyard was saved for varietals from his homeland. Our historic, proprietary Barbera clones benefit from the warm, dry days in northern Alexander Valley, where the grape’s classic acidity creates a wine with vibrant aromas and a velvety texture. This wine is 100% Barbera from our Estate Home Ranch in Alexander Valley.
America’s oldest Sangiovese vineyard derives its name from a tiny railway station in Northern Sonoma’s Alexander Valley. This valley so much resembled their native land that the first Italian immigrants named the stops along the track for the wines they sensed would flourish here. Trusting their intuition, in 1910, the Seghesio Family planted a Sangiovese based field blend in their Chianti Station vineyard, according to the classic Tuscan tradition. Today, we know how wise they were.
Growing and producing world-class Sangiovese is not for the faint of heart. Rattlesnakes, thistle and America’s most unique clone of Sangiovese are all that thrive atop Rattlesnake Hill on our Home Ranch. The 40% slope, shallow topsoil and virtually impenetrable volcanic shale are the perfect antidote for taming this vigorous varietal into producing intensely flavored grapes. The clone, planted in 1910 by Edoardo Seghesio in America’s oldest Sangiovese vineyard, produces small-berried, loosely formed clusters. This wine is 100% Sangiovese from Rattlesnake Hill on our Home Ranch estate in Alexander Valley.
