Seghesio Family Vineyards

2016 Home Ranch Old Vine Zinfandel
2016 Home Ranch Old Vine Zinfandel

In 1895 newlyweds Edoardo and Angela Seghesio purchased their first home in the western benchland of Alexander Valley. Sending the land had great vineyard potential, Edoardo planted a field blend of Zinfandel, and thus began our family's legacy as vintners in Sonoma County. This site-specific Zinfandel comes from blocks 2 through 7, representing some of Home Ranch's most exceptional and oldest vines from Edoardo's original planting.

Tasting Notes
Aromas of juicy black cherries, fresh raspberries, hint of baking spices, and toasted brioche lead to a mid-palate of rich red fruit and fine dusty tannins with integrated oak and layers of complexity.

Long, warm days aided by the absence of marine influence marks this site. The soils are composed of clay and clay loam with underlying layers of basalt, sandstone and volcanic rock. Vines are challenged by the low nutrient level of the clay and the shallow topsoil, which both force them to produce more concentrated fruit.
