In 1893, newlyweds Edoardo and Angela Seghesio purchased their first home in Alexander Valley. As winemaker for the most prominent winery in Sonoma County, Edoardo recognized great vineyard potential surrounding the modest home. In 1895, he planted the Home Ranch vineyard and began the Seghesio tradition of Sharing Uncommon Ground.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Blackberry, raspberry and other brambly fruit characteristic of Alexander Valley. "Graham crust" undertones typical of the Home Ranch terroir. Subtle hints of oak, briary acidity and soft, ripe fruit tannins.
Food Pairing Notes
Well-marbeled cuts of beef and rich braised dishes like short ribs and osso bucco, strong salty cheeses - Bleu, Pecorino and Feta - as well as tomato based pastas with earthy undertones like mushrooms and truffles.
Other Notes
Varietal breakdown - 85% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah

HOME RANCH VINEYARD

Long, warm days aided by the absence of marine influence marks this site. The soils are composed of clay and clay loam with underlying layers of basalt, sandstone and volcanic rock. Vines are challenged by the low nutrient level of the clay and the shallow topsoil, which both force them to produce more concentrated fruit.
