Centennial Club Benefits and Policies

In our quest to produce benchmark Zinfandels, we have enthusiastically expanded our reach beyond Sonoma County to craft exceptional wines that offer counterpoint expressions of this beloved varietal. With renowned Zinfandel vineyard sites in premier growing regions across California, this pursuit led us to our first bottling from the high coastal mountains of Mendocino County.

Edoardo Seghesio immigrated to America from the Piedmont region of Italy, home to Barbera. In 1895, he planted his first vineyards to grapes he had come to enjoy in his new country, yet one vineyard was saved for varietals from his homeland. Our historic, proprietary Barbera clones benefit from the warm, dry days in northern Alexander Valley, where the grape’s classic acidity creates a wine with vibrant aromas and a velvety texture. This wine is 100% Barbera from our Estate Home Ranch in Alexander Valley.

The core of this blend comes from our Chen's Vineyard planted in 1972 in Dry Creek Valley. This site is named after the gravelly loam soils prevalent up and down Dry Creek Valley. Due to the prevailing afternoon breezes in Dry Creek Valley, the flavor profile tends towards red fruit.

With the core made from founder Edoardo Seghesio’s original planting in 1895, this wine is 120 years in the making. Home Ranch Zinfandel consistently receives high praise from the critics, allowing it to transcend the category into a world class wine that just happens to be made from Zinfandel.

LIMITED SINGLE VINEYARD BOTTLING

In the case of the Maffei Vineyard, Jim and Ned Neumiller, Seghesio’s father and son growers, have been working with the Maffei family for a few years to secure fruit for a single vineyard wine from head-trained heritage selection blocks planted in 1928 and 1942. They work hand-in-hand with the original owners’ granddaughter Joanne Maffei. Just like the Seghesio’s, she is a passionate steward of her family’s land—so much so that Ned considers Maffei to be among the most meticulously farmed vineyards he’s ever seen. “I swear Joanne has a name for every vine,” concurs Jim.

C12 EXCLUSIVE | MAY CELLAR SELECTION

Third and fourth generations Ed and Ted Seghesio planted Chen’s Vineyard in 1972 using a proprietary clone that thrives in the sandy soils along Dry Creek. Much of the fruit goes into our popular Cortina Zinfandel, but we reserved fruit from two special blocks for our limited Chen’s Zinfandel. Within these blocks are just a few rows of vines planted directly along the river that produce truly rarified Zinfandel, deserving of a special and singular bottling.
