Winemaking Update

Happy New Year from all of us at Seghesio. As we begin the year, we are grateful for a winter that has delivered more rainfall than is typical, setting our vineyards up for success as we look ahead to the growing season. With soils fully replenished and vines well supported, this strong start gives us confidence as we prepare for the year to come and share our first club release of 2026.

As we release our first wines from the 2024 vintage, it is a fitting moment to reflect on the season that shaped them. The 2024 growing season marked the second consecutive winter of above-average rainfall in Sonoma County, with approximately 37 inches recorded, or 117 percent of the historical average. The season began cool, with full soil moisture profiles that helped balance vegetative growth and allowed our viticulture team to stay ahead of hand canopy management practices, including shoot thinning, de-clumping, and trellis wire lifting.

By late May, temperatures began to rise slightly above average. Throughout late spring and summer, we experienced warmer daytime highs while retaining the quintessential cool nights that Sonoma County is known for. This consistent pattern through June, July, and August kept vine development steady and measured, supporting balanced sugar accumulation and flavor development.

Harvest began on August 27 and concluded on October 10, with the majority of fruit coming in during September. While the season was slightly compacted, it was one of the smoothest and most evenly paced harvests in recent memory. Our vineyard and winemaking teams worked seamlessly together, executing the harvest with precision, energy, and a shared sense of optimism.

We are incredibly excited about the quality of the 2024 Todd Brothers Zinfandel, 2024 Keyhole Zinfandel, and 2024 Barbera. They showcase expressive regional character, vibrant aromatics, and excellent balance, reflecting both the conditions of the season and the care taken at every stage. These first releases offer an early look at a vintage that we believe will be both compelling and age-worthy, and we are proud to begin sharing them with you.

Estate Update | More to Love at Seghesio

Your Seghesio membership continues to open the door to meaningful experiences at the estate and beyond. This season, we are excited to introduce new perks, highlight favorite member benefits, and invite you to join us at the winery this winter.

In November, each membership received a pass for two, which may be used to expand your tasting party or shared with friends or family for a visit on their own. This benefit allows your guests to enjoy select membership privileges (Italian Roots, Classico, or Bar Tasting for two) during their visit, along with a 20% savings on purchases. It is our way of inviting you to share the experience with the people you love.

We hope you will join us for our February Club Release Event on Saturday, February 7th, designed as a spirited “Super Saturday” at the estate. This invitation-only, progressive tasting moves from the Redwood Room to the Tasting Room and features gourmet tailgate-style bites, a lively soundtrack, and first access to your February club selections. Members will also enjoy exclusive day-of-event savings on featured wines and the opportunity to participate in our Super Bowl Squares raffle.
