Recently, the Seghesio Family began an extensive vineyard replanting program that sought to grow intriguing varieties in the most suitable locations. Vermentino was planted in 2008, with 2011 marking the first vintage of this wine. While Vermentino’s exact origins are unclear, it thrives along the Mediterranean coasts of France and Italy, and is well suited to the Russian River Valley’s marine influenced climate.
Notes of bartlett pear, citrus, orange blossom and limestone on the nose lead to a wine that is lively, persistent, and textured on the palate with notes of lime zest and stone fruits.
Food Pairing Notes
Steamed clams and mussels or oysters on the half shell would be a perfect pairing. Grilled halibut steaks, crab and English pea risotto, or pasta with pesto would be welcome too. If pairing with cheese, a fresh ricotta or burrata would be fantastic choices.
