Seghesio Family Vineyards

Blends & Other Wines

Beyond Zinfandel and Italian varieties, Ted Seghesio makes an array of wines that showcase his true mastery of his art form.

Our Winemaking Philosophy

2013 Pagani Heritage Red

Like the Seghesio Family, the Pagani’s have a history deeply rooted in Zinfandel. This wine comes form
the storied Pagani Ranch in Sonoma Valley. The vineyard is completely dry farmed bringing a very deep root
system that provides for a rich and nuanced structure to the fruit.

2012 Marian's Reserve

In 1975, Ed Seghesio co-fermented an equal blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignane for his own consumption. When the Seghesio family released the first wines under their name in 1983, Ed’s blend was bottled and released in honor of his beloved wife, Fay Marian. It was at Fay’s urging that their sonTed became the family’s fourth-generation winemaker. To showcase the varietal characteristics of these remarkable old vines while honoring his mother, Ted began producing Marian’s Reserve again in 2004.

2011 Il Cinghiale Petite Sirah

We named this wine Il Cinghiale — wild boar in Italian — for a reason: Brawny and rich, it evokes untamed forest, an open fire and roasting meat. Petite Sirah was first introduced in California in 1878, mistakenly as Syrah. Growers recognized the error and soon began calling the newcomer Petite Sirah for its small berries and low yields.

2012 Burnside Road Pinot Noir

The Burnside Road Vineyard in Russian River Valley is a cool, marine-influenced site with undulating slopes that are often fog-covered in the mornings and late afternoons. Farmed by the Martinelli family, who have grown grapes in Sonoma County since the 1880’s, Burnside features the Russian River’s prized Goldridge soils, a sandy loam that is particularly well draining. Our grapes come from a northeastern-facing slope; a cool spot where the Pinot Noir ripens at a gradual pace.

2013 Thomas Road Pinot Noir

The Thomas Road Vineyard is located in the Southwestern corner of Russian River Valley, near the small town of Graton. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean makes it one of the coolest areas of the region. This vineyard features the Russian River’s prized Goldridge soils, a sandy loam that is particularly well draining and highly sought-after—especially for Pinot Noir.

2012 Grenache 1942 Block

This 1.1-acre old vine vineyard was planted in 1942 to Zinfandel — at least that is what was ordered from the nursery. After its first two years of production, its lighter-colored clusters didn’t look like Zin. Eventually, it was figured out that the Auradou family had accidentally planted Grenache on this prime hillside location on the Dry Creek bench. This tiny plot of old vine Grenache provides an opportunity to produce a unique wine from exceptional fruit on an exceptional vineyard.

2011 Old Vine Carignane

Carignane is one of the world’s most widely planted varietals, prominent in Southern France, the United States, Israel, Northern Africa and many former Soviet countries. It is one of the wine industry’s favorite blending wines and a staple in our old vine plantings of Zinfandel. Like most grape varieties, Carignane vines evolve into something very special at about 50 years of age. This wine displays the character and complexity inherent in mature vineyards.

2010 Dionigia

“Dionigia” was Angela Seghesio’s middle name and translates to “wine goddess” in Italian. Originally from the Lombardy region in Northern Italy, Angela was quite proud of her heritage and was an integral part in maintaining the business while Edoardo tended to the vineyards and winemaking. This blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from estate vineyard sites grown at the Home Ranch vineyard in Alexander Valley. Creating this wine was the perfect way to honor Angela’s lasting memory.
